Under the house bill, a family of 4 making $34,000/year (150% of the poverty level ) will be required to buy health insurance. A lucky single person can make up to $16,245 before they’re forced to buy.

They get to spend what’s left on food, clothes, and (if they’re lucky) keeping the rain and snow off them while they sleep.

This is what I mean by “the most regressive tax imaginable”.

This congress has proven that they lack … something that they need … to fight for the American people.

I don’t trust them, any more.

I want them to either give up, or lose, on health care “reform”.

We’ll have to wait.

These aren’t the people we want to have do it for us.

The Republicans won’t help.

These may not be the people to do it for us, but they will forge ahead and do it anyway. If they compromise any meaningful reform out of it they will still claim a grand accomplishment.

I am weary of those who claim that expecting something beyond the most cosmetic of changes is expecting too much. Bush, and Reagan before him, wrenched the country far to the right without apology and yet democrats seem unwilling to do anything to enact their own professed political philosophies when they find themselves in control of the levers of power.

We repeatedly find ourselves wrenched 587 steps to the right under Republican administrations. When the pain that results from that shift becomes too great for the American people to bear they give power back to the Democrats who then gingerly and apologetically move us two steps to the left.

The overall result of these differing styles of governing condemns this nation to an inexorable rightward trajectory into the completely bankrupt philosophy of all power to the powerful, none to the people.
